April 24 was a fun day. April 24 was one of those days when a simple dream came to reality. The blending of personal passions into a fellowship-building event. I'm so very glad I had the opportunity to not only participate, but to be a ride guide along with my G2 (my middle son) on his first mulit-mile ride. It seems fitting, then, to add some resources that our church family, their friends and our community can take advantage of as a way of following up on this bike ride. These are websites that I found when doing some follow-up research on the Santa Ana River Trail. I hope you enjoy them. http://www.santaanarivertrail.com/index.php - This site describes the trail in its sections and give you some maps to use in planning a ride. http://www.bikely.com/ http://www.bikely.com/listpaths/srchkey/riverside%2C+ca I hadn't ever heard of this site, but it seems be quite a resourece for those looking for bicycle excursions. All you have to do is type in your location in the search field and you'll be given a list of user-created routes for bike rides. The second link is for riding routes in, to or from Riverside, CA. That's it for now. If more links come to mind, they'll be added to our links section. -- Bobby G |

Easter Fair Forecast: Sunny With a Chance of Relationship |

So this weekend is Easter weekend and at RCC we celebrate the gift we’ve
been given by giving a gift to our community. 2010 is the 12th year
we’ve done our Easter Community Fair at Riverside Community Church. And
it’s free: as in free admission, free food and free entertainment for
kids of all ages. But the putting on is not the point.
Last week, I took a few moments to check the weather forecast and I
found myself smiling one of those “whew, it looks like the weather will
be good so we can have a good fair” smiles. But as I reflected on that
further, I realized that RCC’s fair isn’t about the presenting, it’s
about the relating that can begin in the context of free. Relationships
are the key to beginning, maintaining and growing in a healthy spiritual
journey. And if you’ve ever had a negative experience while pursuing
God, chances are an unhealthy relationship or experience was at the core
of that negative experience.
At RCC we believe that we’re people who need something, have found that
something and believe we should share it. And the best way to share it
is in the context of friendship. And and a great way to begin that
friendship is with a smile and handshake, the sounds of kids giggling as
they tumble down inflatables or a simple conversation.
So the fair and the sunny weather, then, really just facilitate that
introduction to the hands and feet of Jesus - people serving and meeting
needs the way Jesus did. I’m glad tomorrow’s forecast is Sunny with a
Chance of Friendship. Hope to see you there!

Overflowing with Gratitude |

Yesterday, we celebrated the season of Thanksgiving with a service that was filled with interaction and meaning. During the message, we were given opportunities to express gratitude. During the second interactive time, we were all encouraged to prepare a thank-you or contact someone to say thanks. It was amazing to see the kids at the back busying themselves creating thank you cards with paper and crayons. It was also cool to see people walking around the Worship Center talking to each other, sharing hugs and expressing thanks. One of the things that for me stuck out the most was the "Garden of Prayer" basket. The congregation had been encouraged to bring forward their personal thanks to God and, as you can see by the picture, the basket was filled to overflowing! How cool is that! Even in these tough times of job loss, home foreclosures and illness, we are still able to praise God for His blessings. That's a great way to worship!
