Its a driving hunger, a basic emotional need, the thing everybody thinks would solve the worlds problems. Songs have been sung and books written about the art, the science, and the mystery of Love. There are more definitions of love than people to share them. There is more hunger for love than people to give it. Even God says it defines his very essence. So why is true love so hard to find? Maybe because there is a terrible shortage of true lovers in the world to give it. In this series we're going to bypass the countless pop-culture definitions of love and see if we can experience a taste of what the Creator of "love" had in mind when He first set the world spinning.

My mom used to quote a simple little ditty to me that you might have heard. “What are little boys made of?” was one of her favorites and one of mine, in spite of the fact I wasn’t always sure about snails being on the ingredient list. But it got me thinking. What is God made of? Would you believe that God himself answers the question very directly? But if you were hoping to have a deep mystery of the universe solved, I’m afraid the answer is just as mysterious as the question. Join us as we begin a 5 week adventure into improving your love life.

This week we’ll discover a rich tradition in God’s love that will challenge our shallow definitions of truth and take us to new territory as lovers.

Activists bother me. And I’m talking about activists of all types, even causes I believe in. I’m the kind of guy that believes we should all sit down and work things out. Marching around with signs and shouting slogans seems like such a stick-in-the-eye approach to problem solving. It just doesn’t seem very loving. But a glimpse into the life of Jesus will challenge our definitions of love as all talk and understanding. We’ll even discover a side of love more powerful than waving a poster.

I’m a big fan of grace. How about you? When you mess up and discover that someone has given you a free pass; that can be overwhelming. I even feel pretty good when I’m the one offering grace to someone else. I might even hope for a little good karma out of the deed. But are we sure that what we hand out as grace is the real deal? Sometimes what passes for grace turns out to be a cheap imitation. Join us as we discover the difference between grace and “warm fuzzies”

When the apostle John wrote, “God is love,” he was clearly reaching for something more than a feeling. David has taken us deep into the kind of love that makes up God. Discovering trustworthy truth, compassionate justice, and accepting grace have already challenged our love lives. But it’s time to admit that some days we just aren’t, “feelin’ the love.” The good news is that becoming a better lover doesn’t start in your heart, but your backbone. Join us as we bring all the pieces together and get set to transform our little corner of the planet with real love.
